چکیده

The spectrum of diseases caused by B. vesicularis is diverse, ranging from bacteremia, septicemia, endocarditis, meningitis, peritonitis in chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients to skin infections.4 We encountered a case who initially presented with jaundice due to obstruction of common bile duct. During her stay at the hospital, she developed obstruction of the placed stent and high grade fever with rigors and chills. Her blood culture sent to Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) yielded growth of Brevundimonas vesicularis. The patient was given meropenem intravenously for 10 days with complete recovery. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first reported case of bacteremia caused by Brevundimonas vesicularis in Pakistan.

Bacteremia due to Brevundimonas vesicularis.

In the original article on Brevundimonas vesicularis bacteremia, Zhang et al described the clinical characteristics and microbiological features of 22 patients with primary B. vesicularis bacteremia who were being treated in a medical center in southern Taiwan during 2006e2009. In this study, microbiological identification was performed with an API 20 NE system (bioMérieux, Marcy L’etoile, Fran...

Case report: Infective endocarditis caused by Brevundimonas vesicularis

BACKGROUND There are few reports in the literature of invasive infection caused by Brevundimonas vesicularis in patients without immunosuppression or other predisposing factors. The choice of antimicrobial therapy for bacteremia caused by the pathogen requires more case experience to be determined. CASE PRESENTATION The case of a 40-year-old previously healthy man with subacute endocarditis p...

Invasive Brevundimonas vesicularis bacteremia: two case reports and review of the literature.

There are few reports of invasive infections caused by Brevundimonas vesicularis. We report two cases of B. vesicularis bacteremia confirmed by culture and 16S rRNA sequence analysis with highly variable sensitivity to broad-spectrum antibiotics. Initial empiric therapy with anti-pseudomonal antibiotics plus trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for hospital-acquired B. vesicularis infections should be...

Antibiogram pattern of isolated bacteria from bacteremia in hospitalized children – Bandar Abbas, Iran

Introduction: Presence of bacteria in blood is a serious cause of hospitalization, morbidity and mortality in pediatric. Microbial culture of blood samples is the most reliable technique to identify the responsible bacteria and determine antibiotic susceptibility. Extensive use of antibiotics and increasing prevalence of resistant organisms urged us to expand our knowledge about antibioti...
